5 Tips for Whiter Teeth and Better Breath

This is not the sexiest topic, but oral health is IMPORTANT. If not properly taken care of, your teeth and gums can lead to significant health issues. Here are some simple practices to incorporate into your routine to lead to better breath, healthier gums, and whiter teeth.

Tongue Scraping:

Do you have a “coated tongue”? That’s when you have a milky film over your tongue that is caused by bacteria and dead cell buildup. If you answered yes, you especially need to try this.

Benefits of tongue scraping:

-Reduce bad breath

-Improves the taste of food

-Improves the appearance of the tongue

-Improves overall health

I promise you your mouth will feel so much cleaner.

I have used both the plastic and copper versions and like both of them. It's really just preference.

Oil Pulling:

Do you drink hot coffee and notice that after your teeth just seem a little bit more dull? This will help bring back the sparkle and whiten them.

More importantly, swishing EV coconut oil for 10 minutes a day, 1-2 times a week can help you with the following:

Benefits of Oil Pulling:

-Removes plaque

-Kills harmful bacteria

-Improves bad breath

-Improves gum health

-May help prevent tooth decay

Ayurvedic practitioners believe that oil pulling can help reduce headaches, inflammation in the body, and clear your sinuses.

Some have even said that you can avoid cavities by practicing this regularly.

I like to brush my teeth before, oil pull, and brush again after.

Mouth Taping:

Taping your mouth? While sleeping?!

Whatttt..

I know, I know. I had the same reaction. Hear me out.

My fiance put me onto taping my mouth before bed and it has drastically improved my sleep. When I don’t do it, I notice the difference immediately.

Did you know that mouth breathing leads to sleep apnea, deprives vital organs of proper oxygenation, disrupts your oral microbiome and makes you more prone to tooth decay?

If you fear potentially suffocating while sleeping with a taped mouth, just know that I thought the same thing. It hasn’t happened to me yet.

God was very strategic in how he designed the body. Your nose is a natural filter, so let it do what it does best.

Read the book “Breath” by James Nestor. One of Drew’s favorites. It goes into how mouth breathing is detrimental to your health, alters your face shape negatively, and has so many other side effects that you wouldn’t think about.

For tape you want to use something soft and not really sticky. This is the one I use.

Just tape it over your lips before bed and wake up feeling better than you ever have.

Buy An Electric Toothbrush:

An electric toothbrush will give you such a deeper clean! Especially closer to the gums and your back teeth.

There are many listed at different price points based on your budget, but investing in a good one is totally worth it.

Floss:

Your dentist tells you that you need to do this twice a day, and here you are still picking and choosing when you should floss.

Babe, your gums need to breathe. It doesn’t matter if there is anything in between your teeth or not. Your breath will smell better. Your mouth will feel better. Just do it.

Those are my 5 simple tips for better oral health!

If you are not doing these already, you are missing out on serious benefits. While some previously caused damage is not reversible, it’s never too late to incorporate new practices and see what you like.
